As you know, our mission is to be an effective advocate for the historic, cultural and architectural heritage of Delray Beach.

This past year, the Delray Beach Preservation Trust has:

-Successfully worked with City Commissioners and FDOT to change the plans to substantially widen historic Swinton Avenue, which would have caused the removal of 150 trees and severely damaged the historic canopy.

-Worked closely with Commissioners to create a “Tree Overlay Zone” and designation to protect trees throughout the city. This effort is on-going.

-Cooperated with local and county groups to halt the proposed demolition of the former Carver High School campus which was built in 1958.

-Expanded our Historic Plaque Program to identify qualified historic homes and buildings in Delray Beach.
-Continued to maintain and update a list of “endangered” properties and work with the city’s Historic Preservation Planner.
