Dear friends and neighbors:
The Delray Beach Preservation Trust is comprised of residents dedicated to preserving and protecting the historic heritage of the city for future generations to enjoy and appreciate.
This year, we invested in several exciting projects:
• We launched a historic walking tour app, free to download at the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. We started with the Marina Historic District and plan to highlight the other four districts as well as houses and buildings of distinction throughout the city.
• We partnered with the city and agreed to pay for several historic markers damaged or destroyed over the years. These markers highlight and draw attention to Delray’s heritage. We also joined forces with the city to help with a long awaited survey of the city cemetery, which will document the final resting places of important civic and cultural leaders dating back to the 1800s.
• The Trust supported the Atlantic Avenue Resource Survey and will work to preserve the city’s downtown and its walkable “Village by the Sea vibe” that draws visitors from around the world.
• To promote Historic Preservation Month in May, the Trust placed “Property of Distinction” signs in front of a dozen of the city’s historic churches, several of which date back to the 1800s. And every May, the Trust hosts a brunch at one of our most distinctive historic houses to allow our members and supporters a glimpse inside.
• And in perhaps the most significant and challenging move in the trust’s 15-year-history, we have accepted the role of becoming the lead agency in the ongoing effort to preserve, restore and repurpose the four remaining buildings of the historic Carver High School campus in the Southwest Neighborhood.
To continue these important efforts, we hope you will consider becoming a member or donating to our cause. The trust is a registered 501(c)(3) non profit so your donations are tax deductible.
